Ohhhhh the joys of bath time. Emily has now officially had four baths. Here is a quick review of our experiences thus far.
Bath #1, 8/18/09 'Pro-wash'- The nursery took Emily down (with doting dad following) to give her the treatment. They turned on the incubator, got the water just right, and tried to walk me through the process. Emily turned beat read and screamed her head off until it came time to wash her hair- she loved that. She also loved basking in her full naked glory under the heat lamp. I can't read her mind, but if I could she was saying 'aaaaaahhhhhhh'.
Bath #2, 8/21/09 'ladies night'- after being released from the hospital and given the 'swaddle bath method' course, Lesley and Grandma Claire decided it was time for her next bathing experience. Overall, a great experience but there were no one handed wash-o-matic moves like our nurse Michelle put on for the first bath. We also had a nice little tub that the hospital gave us that was used. It was a little small, which did not make things easy. Finally our swaddled baby was cleaned and after more tears (except for the head washing) she was clean, happy, and ready for bead!
Bath #3, 8/23/09 'Dad joins in'- now it was my turn to help. This time we decided to use our whale tub since the little Tupperware tub was useless. Swaddling was out. This time, after checking the temp fifty times, we stripped her down and plunged her in. She didn't cry quite as much as I was expecting, but there were plenty of tears, especially with a big Sasquatch trying to maneuver a little 8 pound precious slippery girl! Mom and Dad did it, but with a few more grey hairs and a little more experience.
Bath #4, 8/25/09 'what happens in the bathroom stays in the bathroom'- We are starting to get into the grove of this whole parenting thing. We are not quite the well oiled machine just yet, but on our way. After feeding and changing a putrid diaper we were ready to go. BUT WAIT! The first rule is to have everything ready before you dip the little one! We didn't have a towel, comb, or other essential items ready to get our little bundle of joy squeaky clean! So as we get things ready, mom is holding Emily, who is butt naked and loving it. You all know what happens next right...
All of it happened in a flash, but to us it was like slow motion- even down to me doing the slo-mo run and saying NOOOOOOooooooo.... We hear the rumble, moms face changes, and we both see yellowish-brown liquid running down moms belly towards our new tile. I rush forward and catch as much as I can in my hand (yuck) and we just stare at each other. As we finally bust out laughing I grab a towel to hold her in so Les can get cleaned up. This time I was prepared...
A few seconds after Lesley hands Emily to me I hear a little pop and a little urine grenade went off right in the palm of my hand. I am not sure if she coughed at the same time to build up pressure or what, but the amount of pee that she expelled in .02 seconds would have even made a race horse blush. Finally we get her wiped down again, do the whole bath thing- a little better than last time and make it to bed with no more incidents.
As I told Emily that I love her and kissed her goodnight I swear I saw a gleam in her eyes and a smirk on her little lips. who knows what the next bath has in store for us...
